About Us

Our story

Born from a love of the Andaman mangroves, we are on a mission to share this magical world, responsibly.

About Andaman Mangrove Kayak

We are a small kayaking operation working out of Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep) in the Andamans. We run two trips: mangrove kayaking by day, and bioluminescent night kayaking after dark. That is the entire list, and we intend to keep it that way.

Why only two trips

Most operators in the Andamans sell a menu: scuba, snorkeling, jet ski, glass bottom boat, and kayaking somewhere near the bottom. It works commercially, but the kayaking is usually run by whoever is free that morning. We would rather guide the same creeks repeatedly and know which channels go too shallow at low tide, where the kingfishers are working this week, and which bank to avoid after heavy rain.

How we run a trip

Groups are capped at 10 on the daytime paddle and 8 at night. The briefing happens on land before anyone gets in a kayak. A guide paddles with the group rather than leading from a distance, and life jackets are worn throughout with no exceptions. You do not need to swim, and you do not need previous experience.

What we will not tell you

We will not guarantee bioluminescence, because nobody can. It is plankton responding to conditions, not a light we switch on. We will not promise specific wildlife sightings. And we cancel trips when the weather turns, refund in full, and take the loss rather than launch in water we do not like the look of.

The mangroves themselves

The creeks we paddle are working ecosystems: nurseries for juvenile fish and a buffer that absorbs wave energy before it reaches the coast. A kayak has no engine, no wake and no fuel in the water, which is the main reason we run kayaks rather than boats. Small groups are part of the same reasoning, not a luxury feature.

Our Story

How it all began

Andaman Mangrove Kayak started with a simple idea: show people the beauty of the mangroves without harming them. What began as weekend paddles with friends grew into a full-time adventure company, built on deep respect for the island ecosystem and the communities that depend on it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are life jackets provided?

Yes. Every paddler wears a fitted life jacket from launch to landing, guides included, with no exceptions. We carry sizes for children and adults, and your guide checks the fit before anyone gets into a kayak.

Are your kayaking guides local and trained?

Yes. Our guides are locals who grew up on these waters, and they are trained in first aid and our safety procedures. Every trip starts with a safety briefing on land, and the guide paddles with the group the whole way.

Why do you only operate on Havelock Island?

We only run the paddles we know well. Havelock's creeks are sheltered, quiet and rich in bird life, and they are also where we run the bioluminescent night trip. Staying on one island lets us know the tides and conditions closely.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day?

We cancel for rain, strong wind, poor visibility or water conditions we are not happy with, and you get a full refund or a free reschedule. We would rather refund you than launch in unsafe conditions.

Who runs Andaman Mangrove Kayak?

We are a small kayaking operation working out of Havelock Island. It started as weekend paddles with friends and grew into a full-time company, built on respect for the mangroves and the island communities that depend on them.

How do you keep your tours eco-friendly?

We follow low-impact paddling practices: no engines, small groups, and no feeding, touching or chasing wildlife. The aim is for every trip to leave as small a footprint as possible.

How big are your kayaking groups?

Small on purpose: up to 10 paddlers on daytime trips and up to 8 on the night paddle. Small groups are quieter on the water and leave more room for questions.
